Exploring Squares, Vineyards, and Alpine Valleys

A tailor-made weekend for you, to discover on your bike 2 countries: flavors, vineyards, panoramas between Italy and Slovenia.
Explore the stunning landscapes of Italy and Slovenia on our exhilarating bike tour. Starting in Trieste, our journey takes us westward to Palmanova, passing iconic landmarks like Miramare Castle and Aquileia’s Roman ruins. We offer an alternative route from Monfalcone to Clauiano, winding through the scenic Cavanata Reserve.

Continuing through the Friulian countryside, we pedal towards Gorizia and into Slovenian territory, where we’ll visit the famous Postojna caves. Our final leg returns us to Trieste, tracing the Adriatic coast and showcasing charming villages along the way.

Day 1
overnight stay in Trieste

Day 2
From Trieste to Palmanova: approximately 60 km The tour starts from Trieste with its famous squares and glimpses of the sea and continues westward, along a precious view of the Gulf of Trieste. We reach Miramare Castle, Duino and then we dive into the UNESCO World Heritage, visiting Aquileia with its Basilica and Roman ruins and the distinctive Palmanova, famous for its nine-pointed star-shaped plan. (We can also propose the alternative track from Monfalcone to Clauiano: this is because from Trieste to Monfalcone you should pedal almost exclusively on state road with cars. In alternative, you can choose to make a transfer from Hotel in Trieste to Monfalcone and start your cycling route from there.) The track from Monfalcone to Clauiano (without Trieste) is still of 73 km because you will cross all the beautiful Cavanata Reserve with the bike path and get to Grado; then follow the Alpe Adria to Palmanova/Clauiano.

Day 3
From Palmanova to Audissina: approximately 60 km We go on discovering the Friulian territory, toward the slopes of the Julian Alps. We pedal to the edge of the Friulian Collio, along the Isonzo valley, passing the town of Gorizia, a jewel with its wine cellars, castle and transalpine square as well as the capital of wine. We are in the Vapiva Valley, below the Karst plateaus, where sun, green and bora meet.

Day 4
From Audissina to Postumia: approximately 40 km The third stage takes us through another part of the Vipava Valley, entirely in Slovenian territory. We reach the famous Postojna caves, the most visited karst cave in Europe!

Day 5
From Postojna to Trieste: approximately 60 km We retrace part of the valley, heading towards Italy, passing through Opicina and returning along the Adriatic coast, finishing our tour back in Trieste. The route winds along comfortable bike paths, quiet back roads, and a few stretches of road. It let you discover villages, seaside towns, historic sites, sea views, and hilly landscapes dotted with vineyards.
